Bobby Gaffney

 

Bio

Since joining Kentucky Heritage Hemp in 2019 as its Chief Science Officer and Lab Director, Bobby has been involved in setting up the extraction facility, quality testing, and pursuing third party certifications. He was instrumental in obtaining the organic certification for our drying facility in 2019, as well as obtaining both our cGMP and organic certifications for the extraction facility in 2020.

Bobby received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Centre College in 2005, his Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of Kentucky in 2012, and his MBA from Western Kentucky University in 2018. His doctoral work focused on RNA processing and polyadenylation, and related activities in a molecular biology lab.

In 2012, Bobby joined AAPPTec (Advanced Automated Peptide Protein Technologies) as a Technical Sales Consultant. In this role, he worked with universities and companies throughout the United States in their efforts to utilize peptides in various research areas, including drug development, therapeutics, antibody development, and basic research.

From 2015 through 2019, Bobby worked at WKU on an HHMI grant that participated in the SEAPHAGES network. He assembled and annotated bacteriophage genomes.
